NAILS Magazine - October 2010

Behind the Scenes: A Long Overdue Appointment Five years ago, Patricia Yankee was named NAILS' Nail Tech of the Year in 2005. Part of her prize included a trip to California to do the cover nails for NAILS Magazine. We never seemed to be able to settle on a date that worked for both of us. And all of a sudden, it was five years later and we were still trying to figure out a good time for her to come out. Thankfully, it all came together this past June.

Features in this issue:

Play Me a Mood

You’ve just thought of an awesome new signature service you want to add to your spa menu. So why not go that little extra mile and make a nice music playlist to go along with it?

My B.I.F. (Best Implement Friend)

What implement can you not live without? Nail techs answer this question by describing the tools that get them through the workday. Plus, be sure to save the experts’ advice for implement purchasing, and the convenient buyers’ guide for the next time you’re shopping for new implements.

Portrait of a Winner

NAILS’ Self-Portrait Contest has taken an international turn this year—the winner is Sri Lanka-based K. Prasad Silva Rajapaksa. A nail technician at Salon Cheveux in Colombo, Rajapaksa wowed the judges with her detailed depiction of herself. Closer to home, Alice Norton, a tech at Sydney Albert SalonSpa in Princeton, N.J., took second place and Shamina J. Di Mauro of Advanced Images and Nail Center in Baldwin, N.Y., claimed third.

Credit Card Program Makes Saving Seamless

We know we should be saving for retirement — or taxes, or that vacation — but often we can’t seem to find a way. A free service called Auto-Save from Integrity Payment Systems automatically deducts a pre-determined amount each time a client pays with a credit card and deposits the amounts into an interest-bearing, no-minimum savings account.
